New Orleans 2005 Reunion

 

                            The reunion in New Orleans will be from 10/13 thru 10/17 2005.

We will stay at the Brent House.  It is a very nice Hotel about halfway between the airport and downtown.  The Hotel is affiliated with the Ochsner Clinic which is a major medical facility that specializes in heart related science.  We have negotiated an extremely reasonable rate of $66.50 per night including a full breakfast every day, a beautiful Atrium hospitality room exclusively for Mills use during our stay, free parking, and the ambience for which New Orleans is renowned worldwide.  Comparison accommodations downtown in October are priced at a minimum of $120.00 plus up to $25.00 per night parking.   Parking will be free, but tickets must be validated at the front desk prior to departure every time your car is moved from the hotel.  A new ticket will issued upon your return. 

Once Again please make reservations as early as possible, the cutoff to hold our block is September 1st, and additional rooms will be virtually impossible to obtain.  October is one of the most popular months for visitors in New Orleans.

This is the direct reservation line.  To reach the hotel for information etc, please call 504 835 5411.   Reserve from 10/13 thru 10/16 {4 nights, departure 10/17} Please be sure to use USS Mills as the key to ensure inclusion in the reunion block. This rate will be honored for one day before and one day after the reunion block.  Shipmates are always encouraged to register early, please do so again this year.  Please be aware of the 9/1 cutoff for reservations.  The hotel requires enough time to communicate directly with each reservation prior to the reunion dates. 

Our host, Allan Welshofer will send a voucher to each reservation for a discounted trip to and from the Airport. Cost for a trip is predicted to be $30 by October.  Voucher will be for $24.00 a couple, a 20% savings.  Payment will be made directly to the driver.

Friday 10/14  
  10:15 AM  Board Busses for Natchez Steamboat cruise on the Mississippi. 
  Buffet lunch and Jazz Music provided
     
  2 to 4:30 pm Tour French Quarter at your leisure. Busses will pick us up in
  Jackson Square for return to Brent House   
     
  6:30 pm  Departure for Smilie’s Restaurant.
  Transportation divided between vans provided by the Hotel and
  Shipmates who have driven personal vehicles.

Please plan to attend the dinner at Smilie’s.  Our annual meeting will be there.  There will be an open cash bar set up from 7 pm to 10.

This meal is a Buffet.  Therefore a head count is the only requirement.  It too is included in the fee quoted above.

Please give some thought to the silent Auction.  It will be wonderful to have everyone represented by an item indigenous to their home state.  We have made arrangements to have the items displayed in the hospitality Atrium for most of the time it is occupied.

Our shipmates in D.C. had a lot of fun with this entertaining way to feed the kitty and take home a valuable memento.
